August 30, 2009. Durango, CO. - The FLC Men's Soccer Team wasted no time welcoming the 1st year team Adams State to Dirks Field earlier today when the Skyhawks overpowered the Grizzlies 9-1. The game featured six different Skyhawks scoring and a crowd of almost 500 fans.
Fort Lewis got on the scoreboard quick in the 7th minute of the first half when junior Keane Hamilton crossed the ball in front of the net for senior Tom Settle to knock it in to make it 1-0. Five more goals followed in the first half from sophomore Fabian Kling, another from Tom Settle, a header from junior Jamie Cunningham, junior Euan Purcell stuck his foot on one and a header from Abdel Becerra. Adams State was able to put one goal past the Skyhawks in the first half but it was the lone goal for the Grizzlies.
The second half was much like the first with the Skyhawks dominating the field and only allowing one shot in the second half, four total in the game. Fort Lewis took 34 total shots in the game, three of those which hit the back of the net in the second half. Two being from Euan Purcell giving hiim 3 goals and 1 assist on the day and the last goal of the game from junior defender Kyle Wood. Zane Wells had 3 saves on the day.
The Skyhawks who are now 2-0 on the season will play this coming up Friday, September 4th against Dixie State at 3:30 p.m. at Dirks Field.
